Networking & Informational Interviewing

Research and exploration are an important development strategy. This section offers resources to promote professional networks in the workplace through informational interviews, networking events, and participation in employee groups. Networks enable you to get information, feedback, learn new skills, assess organizational needs and explore professional opportunities.

Resources available include:

  • Informational Interview Network on Yammer: Members of this group are willing to share information about their job fields and career experiences. Reach out to any member to learn more about what they do and feel free to join the group yourself.
  • Networking and Informational Interviewing (Workshop): This seminar promotes the concept of networking for multiple purposes: skill development, understanding organizational trends, and uncovering possible project opportunities or job openings. Participants assess the strength and breadth of their networks and review strategies for outreach, preparation and follow-up. Participants learn how to construct specific questions designed to uncover information about organizational needs, culture, future opportunities and the overall "fit" with their skills, interests, values. Visit the MIT Learning Center in Atlas to register online.
